They called me today. The caller said "this is is not a sales call", but wanted to know about the age of my hot water tank, furnace and AC, in case they "might qualify" for "The Ontario Eco Energy", and "Power Authority" rebate programs, and wanted to send someone to my house "to assess if these devices did indeed qualify. IMHO opinion, I believe she was trying to lead me to the impression that she was calling from a government office.
As many might know, "The government will not run after you to give you money."
I queried her whether she represented the Federal or Provincial government, or whether this was a company, and after some hesitations ("I am only supposed to book appointments") and attempts to get back to "the script", I finally got her to admit it was a company.
So I asked is it a "non-profit or "for-profit" company? Again, after some hesitations and attempts to get back to "the script", I finally got her to admit it was not a "non-profit" company.
I said, "Then if it is a "for-profit" company, someone is going to try to sell me something, in order that the company makes a profit, yes?" She replied ... "yes".
I told her I would "take a pass on her kind offer of an assessment appointment" (with a sales shark).
In conclusion:
Yes, I guess the call was technically not a "sales call", but a sneaky way to get a salesperson inside my house so that it WOULD BECOME a sales call.
There "otta be a Law" against these tactics as well. I am on the so-called "No Call List (for whatever good that does?), and this is a SNEAKY, DEVIOUS, work-around! I am majorly pissed!
If someone with "Power Authority" reads this, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PLEASE!

This call comes through around 5 or 6pm. Only rings twice. By the time you pick it up there is no one on the line.
Try calling back and using re-dial and it immediately goes to the fast beep (disconnected signal)
If you manually call the number the operator informs you that the number is no longer in service. Even when you use the long distance digit extension with the area code.
Highly annoying. Had to use my call barring, will see if that stops the calls!

I called him back and called him out on his BS, The caller could barely speak English so I"m assuming this is the great "diversity" that our country is bringing in on a daily basis to attempt to defraud Canadian citizens.
