A friend of mine was sucked in by a phone call from these scam artists this morning. Officer Greg Williams was the first so-call Canada Revenue agent to speak to him, then he was passed on to Officer Mike. They threatened my friend with being arrested and incarceration if he did not pay a certain amount of money. They even said they had a specific bank and account number set up for paying outstanding taxes. Everyone should be careful ... Revenue Canada does not arrest people for outstanding taxes, they send you letters in the mail, advising you that you have been audited and if there was an adjustment to your taxes, they clearly and spell out in great detail the changes, the amount owing and the interest owing. They also provide you with contact numbers for you to pursue the matter further in the event that you want to challenge the results of the audit ... THEY DO NO ARREST YOU AND THEY DO NOT GIVE YOU BANK ACCOUNT NUMBERS TO MAKE PAYMENTS. If you get a call demanding a payment,, ask for the callers first name, last name, which Canada Revenue Agency Office they work out of. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK ON THE NUMBER PROVIDED .. instead .. CALL YOUR LOCAL CRA OFFICE, REPORT THE PHONE CALL AND ASK THEM TO CONFIRM THE IDENTITY OF THE PERSON WHO CALLED YOU. I received a call from this number noting myself or my attorney would have to call back because CRA was issuing criminal charges against me. When I asked for his identification number he started yelling that I had a warrant out and was going to get arrested. Didn"t sound like the professional institution that I normally work with and there were no notifications on my CRA account regarding this matter. I believe it is a scam.
