Strangely enough, I was watching youtube videos yesterday on Scam Baiters who call these numbers back and string the scammers along for hours, pretending like they are going to pay them money! They are NOT calling from the CRA or the IRS! They are in India and just want your money!!! Because it did not have a name attached,I didn"t answer the call. As soon as the answering machine kicked in, a recorded message started informing me I had been added to the fraud registry for tax fraud. instructions for calling that number: 613-800-7587..
That was yesterday at suppertime. Again, this morning at 7:00 am, the same thing. The answering machine did not record the incoming message because it started before the beep.
I tried phoning the number, but no one answered. The phone rang and the line was dead. I tried later, and got an answer. The male voice was foreign. He said Revenue Canada, but did not identify himself. I said: No, you aren"t Revenue Canada, who are you. He hung up.
I called again. A different voice answered. I asked him What do you want? He paused, I waited. He asked me Are you Mrs ....... and badly mispronounced my name. I answered, no my name isn"t pronounced like that. He hung up.
