Know your rights and theirs. Lookup what a collection agency is allowed to do and what they are not allowed to do.
They are allowed to call a certain number of times a week. If they don"t reach you live and aren"t able to leave you a voice message, it doesn"t count.
In my case, FDR is trying to collect a debt from 20 years ago. It"s usually a recorded message and sometimes is a live female person.
I used to pickup the call and immediately put them on hold. If it"s a recorded message, this does nothing to them and doesn"t count as a call. Now I let it go to voice mail and keep a log.

I just got one of these today on my cell phone. The above number was listed, coming from Tecumseh, Ontario. It was a voice message, and all that was recorded was, "If I don’t call the department back they will issue an arrest warrant under my name.” Then the recording was silent until the maximum time one has to leave a voice mail message. I googled the telephone number and found this site. It was unnerving to hear, to say the least.

I get at least two calls per day from this number. It is my business phone number. I have repeatedly requested no more calls and to removed from their data base.
