This is simply just another phone number in long list that scammers will use in order to run a shakedown scam on unsuspecting people.
Here"s how this particular scam played out for me:
-A supposed "officer" will call and ask to speak to only the homeowner of the current house regarding a federal matter that involves a complaint against his/her identity. He will correctly identify the homeowner by name (it isn"t hard to find for most people to find - simple 411 lookup by phone number)
-He"ll then claim that you owe taxes in X amount of dollars to the federal government (in our case they claimed ,000!)
-Will try to intimidate/scare you by saying pay up or you will be arrested and go to prison
-He will also claim that they will try to help you out in terms of payment (they"re just looking for whatever amount they can get).
I believe that they are trying to target mostly individuals with names from South Asian countries like India/Pakistan and the like.
Simply ignore the scammers and report this number to your local police fraud department and also your federal anti fraud centre.
