Who called from +12892714977

Someone (old male voice) called me on 11:29 AM (Central time) today from this number pretending to be Canada Revenue Agency, informed me that CRA is filing a case against me (as he said, this is what CRA is doing for the purpose of random audit), and asked whether I have a lawyer.

The caller also "informed" me that a CRA officer will visit my house within 45 minutes :)))

In the middle of our conversation he hung up, but I got his number shown up on the caller ID feature of my landline phone, so I called him back to continue the conversation. This way the number is confirmed to really belong to this fraudster, rather than just to be a fake caller ID. We continued the conversation, and during the second part he said enough for me to become certain that he is the same person who called me in. During the first (incoming) call he only used my last name, and when I called back he knew my first name too, and he continued with the same topic while I only told him as little as my last name, so it is certainly the same person who called me in.

I once had real CRA auditing my income tax file. The real CRA at the time made no incoming calls and sent nobody to my house, they mailed me a letter and invited me to visit their office in the downtown Winnipeg.

As soon as I told the fraudster about that past experience, he hung up on me again.

Needless to say, nobody attempted to come to my house within 45 minutes. I would call police to seize them if they do, because it is obviously a fraud.

If anyone like that attempts to call you in any similar way, I suggest you should treat them as very suspicious strangers attempting to enter your premises, rather than real CRA.

Don"t disclose them any personal information beyond what you already heard from them in their same call.
Don"t tell them any banking or credit card information - any at all, even as little as the card expiration date.

I don"t think they would really come to you after the call, but if they do, don"t let them into your house, don"t even open a door to them. You quite may be facing a risk of physical assault.

This is the second call we have had with this message... which I would like to string them along. Any suggestions?/
Have contacted the police, but they have not responded as yet.

Called me 2nd time. Bad African accent, introduced himself as CRA agent and that I should get a lawyer. Told him to sod off.
This f*g should have been arrested long time ago and deported back to Somalia or wherever the heck he came from.
